The cuisine of Italy is popular around the world and today UNESCO, the cultural body of the UN, designated Italian food as an intangible cultural heritage, the first time a gastronomic style received the designation. The country's Agriculture Ministry began its campaign to win the designation three years ago and it's expected to offer new protections against counterfeit foods and be a boon to Italy's food exports.
“We already export 70 billion euros in agri-food products, and we are the leading economy in Europe in terms of agricultural added value,” said Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. “This recognition will give the Italian economy a decisive boost to reach new heights.”
Speaking of the flavors of Italy, today we're also exploring the versatile varieties and uses of balsamic vinegar with four Italian chefs.
