A study published in the journal Diabetes, Obesity and Metabolism found that for adults with type 1 diabetes, an increase in the severity of complications was associated with a decrease in health-related quality of life. Each increase in the Diabetes Complications Severity Index score was linked to a decrease in quality of life scores.

GLP-1s may reduce risk of bone fracture
A study in JAMA Surgery found use of GLP-1 agonists among adults with type 2 diabetes was associated with a small decrease in 10-year risk of vertebra fracture. The findings were based on electronic health records in Taiwan.

Distinctive heart risk found with visceral obesity
Research presented at a meeting of the Radiological Society of North America found that visceral obesity, or "beer belly," is associated with risk for cardiac damage that is distinct from risks related to general obesity, as measured by BMI. While a higher BMI was associated with a larger heart, visceral obesity was linked to concentric remodeling of the heart. The association was greater among men than women.

Pregnancy complications may presage future heart issues
Pregnancy may serve as a stress test for the heart, revealing hidden cardiovascular issues that may not produce symptoms otherwise, notes Dr. Jennifer Mieres of Northwell Health. Conditions such as gestational hypertension and preeclampsia may significantly increase the risk of developing heart disease later in life, according to National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute data. Earlier research in JACC showed that women developing high blood pressure in pregnancy have a 63% higher risk of later cardiovascular disease.
