The consumer packaged goods (CPG) industry has a long-standing commitment to transparency and strong collaboration with regulators to serve consumers' evolving needs, partnering with FDA on the landmark Nutrition and Labeling Education Act, which created the Nutrition Facts label as well as launching Facts Up Front, now recognized by 90% of American adults and used by nearly eight in ten shoppers and also innovating with SmartLabel by Consumer Brands Association, giving consumers instant access to detailed product information through QR codes on nearly 100,000 products. As expectations grow, so do our tools, including FoodProcessingFacts.org and TruthAboutIngredients.org, created to provide clear, science-based information in an increasingly noisy environment. Earlier this year, Laura Rich joined the Consumer Brands Association as vice president of regulatory and technical affairs after two decades at the FDA and is well positioned to continue that collaboration. In honor of #ConsumerTransparencyWeek, read more about her experience and how the CPG industry is working with the FDA to provide consumers with more clarity here.
