Patriots rookie receiver Kyle Williams got flagged for illegal formation at the start of the second quarter Sunday night in Baltimore, but his coaches gave him a pass.
The game plan called for tackle Thayer Munford to be the jumbo tight end, but Morgan Moses had just left the game with a knee injury, moving Munford to right tackle and Ben Brown entering as the new jumbo tight end.
“Things happen so quickly that Kyle didn’t even realize that Thayer was no longer the tight end,” coach Mike Vrabel said. “Kyle backs up off the ball and he’s like, ‘When did this happen?’ We’re like, ‘The last play.’ And it was like, ‘This is not your fault, Kyle. This is my fault.’ ”
The lineup changes have been coming fast at the Patriots even as they keep racking up wins. Now 12-3 and close to clinching the AFC East title, the Patriots’ depth will be tested this Sunday when they face the lowly 3-12 Jets.
