With time running short, we’ve fallen behind the pace we need to meet our budget.

We have unfortunate news.

We began this year budgeting $4.2 million in grassroots reader support. But now, with less than 24 hours left in our year-end fundraising drive, we’re still more than $100,000 short of what we need to keep The Intercept fully funded as we head into 2026.

There’s still time to catch up, but to avoid a financial shortfall at the worst possible time, we need to see a pronounced uptick in the final hours of 2025.

Our records indicate that you haven’t yet made a year-end donation to The Intercept. So we’re asking you now: Will you chip in $5 today?

This is a truly horrific time for independent journalism.

The White House is weaponizing the FCC and Justice Department against the free press, the Pentagon has ousted reporters who refuse to sign a loyalty pledge, and President Donald Trump has filed a series of multibillion-dollar lawsuits to punish news outlets for coverage he doesn’t like.

Meanwhile Big Tech firms like Google, X, and Facebook are systematically throttling traffic to news sites in order to keep people on their platforms, choking off a crucial source of readership and revenue for independent outlets like The Intercept.

And all this is happening as we face the most corrupt and lawless U.S. administration we’ve ever seen.

Let’s be clear: Without reader donations, The Intercept simply would not exist as we know it — and this end-of-year fundraising drive is our most important campaign of the year.

Donate $5 now to The Intercept’s critical year-end fundraising campaign.
