The message to journalists couldn’t be clearer: If you question Trump or his policies, he’s coming after you — and given The Intercept’s hard-hitting investigative reporting on this administration, we’d be fools not to assume that one of our reporters could be next.

Let’s be clear: We’re not afraid of making powerful enemies. We understand that these threats come with the territory.

But facing these escalating threats, we’re asking our readers to chip in whatever you can afford to help ensure we have the resources to protect our reporters and sources’ personal safety and security.

Over the past several years, we’ve had to increase our investments in security, insurance, and legal teams to ensure the safety of our reporters and staff.

But this level of preparedness comes with a price, and reader donations are an absolutely critical source of funding for everything we do.

Your donations allow us to:

  • Provide for the physical safety of our reporters in the field.
  • Monitor against online threats, including doxing of individuals and cyber intrusion.
  • Fund our ever-increasing liability insurance premiums.
  • Ensure we have the resources to fight back against litigation.

We wish we didn’t have to spend so much on these sorts of protections. But we know it’s essential if we are to keep covering high-profile, dangerous actors.

Will you chip in $5 to help support the investigative reporting of The Intercept in the face of Trump’s escalating attacks on press freedom?
