© Jason Ingram Even though I have not one green finger, I am always heartened to read about gardening – a world that combines the beautiful, the rewarding and the incorrigibly nerdy. People are especially geeky about a snowdrop – Galanthus nivalis, to use its Latin name – of which there are some 2,500 cultivars. I also love the fact that a new type was brought to Europe by soldiers after the Crimean war – a sprig of hope after something so grim. One hundred years ago, the UK was a hotbed for hot bikes – now, the industry has dwindled. But Langen’s founder, Chris Ratcliffe, has devoted his life (and savings) to bringing a bit of the vroom-vroom back. A year ago she realised she had bruxism, the condition where you gnash your teeth unconsciously at night. Apparently, up to a quarter of us suffer from this, and the results are no joke: in one consultation, Rebecca is told she has ground down 25 per cent of her front teeth, which sounds utterly nightmarish. Thankfully there are solutions at hand: Botox in the jaw, anyone?
