HATE RADIO on CNN’s “Amanpour”

Performances start February 12

“It’s mixed with pop culture and fun.
It’s this mix that makes it so effective and so horrific.”

Director Milo Rau joined CNN’s “Amanpour” to speak about Hate Radio, his searing work about RTLM, the Rwandan radio station that helped incite the 1994 genocide.
Audiences watch a live broadcast, listening as upbeat music, jokes, and everyday chatter slide almost imperceptibly into hate speech and calls for violence. As Rau explains:
“As a public, you start to move with the music and laugh at the jokes, and then you fall immediately into the trap.”
Rau said, “I wanted to give two hours where we understand: what is the outcome, what is the reality of all this fun? What is the reality of this hate speech?”

Join us for the U.S. premiere of this powerful work, running February 12–28 at St. Ann’s Warehouse.
