National School Counseling Week highlights the tremendous impact school counselors have in helping students achieve academic success and planning for a career. School counselors work with students in a variety of different capacities, whether it is through classroom lessons, group sessions, or individual counseling. We are so lucky to have three amazing counselors at Parklawn! Thank you to Ms. Fobert, Mr. Kim, and Ms. Sharpton for all you do!

There’s an easy five-step process for parents wanting to register their child for kindergarten:
1. Determine eligibility.
2. Identify your local school.
3. Gather documents.
4. Fill out forms.
5. Schedule an appointment.
After the appointment at the school (the student and one caregiver must be present), the student will be ready for orientation or any other introductory events our school may host. Read more about the registration process. For more information, please call our student information assistant, Doris Acosta, at (703) 914-6900.
Try Online Registration Parents may register their children online for kindergarten through 12th grade. Learn how to begin the online registration process. When registering, parents will create or log in to an existing SIS ParentVUE account.

Our school will participate in the FCPS Student Experience Survey. This survey will gather important feedback from students about their school experiences to help FCPS make meaningful improvements.
All students in grades 3-5, except those who have opted out, will receive a link to the survey in their FCPS email on February 23. We will administer the survey during the school day between Monday, February 23, and Friday, March 6. Any student may take the survey at home, if they are unable to take the survey during the school day. You will receive a communication with details on how to preview the survey and opt your child out, if you choose. The electronic opt-out form can also be accessed at this link.
We believe it's important to hear from our students about what we're doing well and where we can improve. This work also aligns with the equity commitments in FCPS’ 2023-30 Strategic Plan, which include a focus on amplifying student voice and experiences as we work toward meeting plan goals.
The Parklawn PTA is preparing for a number of activities through the rest of the school year, which include several volunteer opportunities.
Bingo Night is on Friday February 6 from 6pm - 7:30pm! We are collecting many exciting items for our raffle and are looking for volunteers to help during the event—check out our sign up sheet here Parklawn PTA Volunteers: 2025 Bingo Night and let us know if you can help. All volunteers will receive five raffle tickets for each 30-minute slot they sign up for! This year we are accepting pre-sale orders on our Givebacks website. All Bingo winners will be able to select a prize. This is a fun tradition at Parklawn that you won't want to miss!
