Practice Schedule for the Week
Coaches have the right to adjust the schedule as they see fit, so make sure you are getting whatever communication comes from your program. Many of our programs have varying time schedules for practice as all our programs work together to maximize practice space and utilize our facilities equally.
Booster Club Update
Our Booster Club Board is small but mighty! We can use all the help, so if you are interested in supporting our student athletes and the Boosters efforts, let us know and we can get you connected. There are plenty of opportunities to help and even if you think your skillset is not useful, we can find a way to make it useful!
The Booster Club handles all things concessions which is the single largest source of income for our athletics budget. FCPS does not supply a yearly budget, so outside of buses and officials, we have to fundraise for everything else. The Boosters and their efforts, allow us the ability to purchase all the things that our student athletes need and want. Some of their recent purchases include the windscreens around our facilities, the baseball turtle and supporting our youth clinics.
We have some big events coming up in the next month including three large wrestling events if you are looking for something to donate your time to. We will need plenty of help running our concession stand for these events, so please feel free to reach out.

Athletes of the Week
We were fortunate to have an incredible number of our student athletes represent Hayfield and Hawk Pride on their respective Fall All National District, Occoquan and Virginia State teams. See them all here - Hawks on the All National District Teams, Hawks on the All Occoquan Region Teams and Hawks on All State Who has next?
Kudos to all of our amazing student athletes that competed this Fall and to all our amazing student athletes that are competing for Winter teams! We look forward to seeing you all compete on the mats, in the pools, on the track and on the courts!
Our Winter teams have been competing with the best of them.
Gymnastics heads into postseason this week with the District Championship meet on Tuesday night at Mount Vernon.
Swim and dive finished 5th on the boys and girls side at the District meet. The one day event was highlighted by Ben Jacobs breaking the school record in both the 500 free and the 200 free. In total, we have 15 individuals and 6 relay teams advancing to the Occoquan Region Swim meet that is upcoming.
Indoor track and field has one more day of competition in the District meet. Our girls team is currently in 4th place with a shot at catching the teams in front of them. The boys are currently in 2nd and battling for the district title. The meet concludes on Wednesday at Espicopal HS!
Boys and girls basketball are both sitting at the top of the District standings and looking to make everyone come through Telegraph Road to win the district championship!
Wrestling is gearing up to host both the district and region meets. Our girls are chasing the inaugural district title in girls wrestling. The boys will be looking to take their place at the top of the standings by Saturday evening. We recently hosted the VHSL Zone 3 Girls State Qualifier that saw 200 girls wrestlers compete for qualification to the state championships over two days. Congratulations to Briana Lemon and Katia Kamarck on their third place finishes and qualification to represent Hayfield at the state tournament in March! The event was great and I received countless compliments about our wrestling staff and all the kids in the Hayfield wrestling programs for the amazing efficiency and efforts in hosting the tournament. Couldn’t be prouder of our kids and coaches!
Our Special Olympics Unified basketball team competed again this weekend at Chantilly and continue to play hard and represent Hayfield in the best light. We are still looking for mentors to play alongside our athletes. Experience and ability are not necessary, so let us know if you want to join in with our amazing crew!
Please join us in congratulating these athletes on an extraordinary end to their season!
Fall recognition keeps coming in too, with our football program receiving some distinguished recognition. We are incredibly proud to announce that two of our own have been selected for top honors by the newly established Northern Virginia Football Hall of Fame. This organization was created to highlight elite talent and leadership specifically within High School Football and Girls Flag Football.
Please join us in celebrating these major achievements for the Hayfield Football program:
These awards are a testament to the dedication of our coaching staff and the exceptional caliber of our student-athletes.
Notes From Our Programs
Stay tuned for Amazon wish lists for all our programs in the near future. We have requests from the community to provide ways that our programs can be supported in small, subtle ways. All programs that would like to be involved and included will be tasked with providing a link to their wishlist to provide to the community.

News From All Night Grad Party
Our All Night Grad Party (ANGP) meeting is this Wednesday, February 4th at 7pm in the Middle School Lecture Hall. All are welcome to attend and support our senior class. If you can’t make it, but want to get involved in ANY way, please reach out to Ms. Phillips at KMPhillips@fcps.edu .
Their big fundraiser is the annual ANGP Craft Fair here at Hayfield in our gym! Information can be found below:

Coach Drickey’s Thoughts and Ramblings
I urge you to take advantage of our Booster Club passes and gain entrance to all home regular season contests for the price of your membership. With that in mind, the expectation is that fans are coming to support and cheer for our team and our students, while making sure that we don’t make negative comments to officials or our opponents.
I know it is hard to imagine a time without all the snow on the ground after this long stretch, but make sure you hold off on purchasing your Spring mulch, as the Spring sports at Hayfield will be selling mulch as a fundraiser. More details to come!
We are excited for our student athletes to demonstrate their success on the field and excel in the classroom, as we chase district, region, and state championships. Our goal is to make Hayfield THE school in Northern Virginia, Virginia proper and the entire country.
This week’s quote comes as many of our teams have had forced breaks due to weather and closings. As we ramp back up just in time for postseason play, think about the American volleyball great Misty May-Treanor’s words, “I’m stronger than I think I am. Mentally, physically.” Let’s get after it and chase championships despite the limitations and obstacles that we have to overcome!
We look forward to our athletes, coaches and supporters winning on the field, courts, mats, track and in the pools, and in the classroom with class and HAWK PRIDE!
