Eleven years later, that Chevy Colorado still runs like a champ.
It helps that it only has 15,000 miles on it. Malcolm Butler only takes it out for special occasions.
“That’s a trophy — that ain’t no truck,” the former Patriots cornerback said by phone from Houston, where he now lives. “Matter of fact, I should drive it all this week.”
As Butler said, it’s not just a truck. It was the prize for the MVP of Super Bowl XLIX. Tom Brady won that award after defeating the Seahawks, 28-24, but he gifted the truck to Butler. It was Butler’s goal-line interception with 20 seconds left that saved the day for the Patriots and made an instant sensation out of Butler, then an undrafted rookie who was only a couple of years removed from working a job at Popeyes.
With the Patriots and Seahawks set to play again next Sunday in Super Bowl LX, Butler is reliving the interception all over again.
