Dear Families,
As we continue to navigate winter weather conditions and the eventual reopening of school, I am writing to share important information regarding arrival, dismissal, and student safety. Our goal is to work together to ensure a safe and smooth return to school for all students.
Due to the current conditions in and around our school, we ask families to carefully review the following information and plan accordingly:
- Many sidewalks and walkways remain icy and snow-covered. Please ensure that students have a safe, planned walking route to and from school. Walking is encouraged, and we ask that families allow additional time due to conditions.
- Bus transportation is strongly encouraged whenever possible. Families of bus riders should ensure students can wait safely at bus stops, as large amounts of plowed snow and ice remain at corners and curbs.
- If you have concerns about the condition of your neighborhood bus stop, you may me and I will do my best to forward this information to the necessary department or contact in our transportation department.
- There is limited available parking on the streets surrounding the school. Please try to limit parking in these areas. This will help support any school buses being able to safely navigate the street in and around our neighborhood.
- Several side streets remain reduced to one lane, which may slow traffic. Please allow extra travel time when commuting.
- Families utilizing Kiss and Ride should expect longer lines over the next several days and plan for additional time.
- Additional staff members will be available during arrival and dismissal to support student safety and supervision.
- Please note that our staff parking is somewhat impacted by the additional snow and ice, we respectfully ask all parking be reserved for school personnel to ensure all teachers can safely arrive to school and be prepared for the return of our students.
I would also like to recognize the tremendous efforts of our custodial team. Despite their hard work and dedication, the combination of recent snowfall and layers of ice has made complete removal extremely difficult. As a result, some pathways that students may typically use have not yet been cleared. As soon as we begin to see melting and the ice is able to be broken and moved, with the equipment we have for use, we will do our best to clear the remaining pathways used by our students and families. We appreciate your understanding and ask students to use caution and follow designated safe routes.
Thank you for your continued support, flexibility, and partnership. We look forward to welcoming students back to school and are grateful to our community for working together to ensure a safe and successful return.
Warm regards,
Keieownna Johnson
Principal
