Lit Hub started because we believe literary culture is worthwhile, and that public discussions about literature and culture are good—good for the publishing industry as a whole, sure, but also good for their own sake. We like reading, we like books, and we like thinking and talking and writing about them.
So when the publishing industry faces challenges—like fewer people reading books, or AI companies leeching off of publishers—it can create a death spiral.
Publications shut down, which means there are fewer places to read about new books and literary culture, which means fewer people buy books, which means less public interest in literary discussions, which means more publications shut down, and on and on.
We want the literary ecosystem to thrive, and we’d like to continue to be a part of it. And to do that, we need your help. If you can, support Lit Hub by becoming a member today.
