Lorwyn Eclipsed has been a bit of a mystery! It's somehow totally on-rails (pick a creature type and stick to it) and super complex at the same time (maybe sometimes don't pick a type and stick to it...).

It's also been pretty polarizing, with some people loving the way the draft and gameplay works, and others calling it too straightforward or snowbally. Whatever your feelings are, you probably still want to win if you're drafting this set.

Obviously, the five big creature types are the stars of the show for Lorwyn. That doesn't mean they're the only thing you can draft, as there are pockets where you can find yourself building some other unique, off-the-cuff decks.

The guide explains more about archetypes and best cards, but here are some of the format parameters you'll want to know:

• Elves is the default "best deck", but also highly contested, so make sure it's open before you move all in.
• Merfolk plays a great tempo plan, and makes great use of convoke spells.
• Elementals is the most loose of the creature types, but also has explosive potential and often splashes around.
• Kithkin is as straightforward as it gets, but also has fewer direct payoffs.
• Goblins is bottom of the rankings, but still forms a great deck if you're the only one drafting it.
• Vivid, blight, and flash are all mini-decks that you'll draft if none of the creature types are calling your name.

Yes, some of the drafts boil down to opening a great rare and following up with more creatures of the same type, but there's more to the format if you explore a little bit.
