BATTING LEADOFF

Even if the Red Sox don’t know yet who will fill out their infield, they suddenly have a ton of options.

They acquired third baseman Caleb Durbin from the Brewers in a six-player trade, consummated on the brink of spring training, a league source said Monday morning.

In addition to Durbin, a short, speedy, and defensively adept versatile infielder, the Sox got infielder Andruw Monasterio and catcher/infielder Anthony Seigler (plus an extra pick in the draft this July).

Heading to Milwaukee in the deal: lefthander Kyle Harrison, infielder David Hamilton, and pitching prospect Shane Drohan.

RANKING THE MANAGERS: The late Nick Cafardo did an annual ranking of all 30 MLB managers in this space. It’s something that has continued since 2019 as a tribute to him. Instead of a straight 1-30 ranking, this year Peter Abraham ranked the managers in groups based on their success, job security, and performance.

OPTING OUT: After a heavy workload in 2025, then the birth of his daughter, Red Sox ace Garrett Crochet said pitching in the World Baseball Classic "just didn’t make sense." Read the full story.
