Five weeks into the year, the country's measles case count is about one-third of the way to last year's total, which was the highest since 1991.

As of Thursday, the CDC showed 733 cases, with the majority in South Carolina. Last year, 2,276 got measles, 246 had to be hospitalized and three died. So far, there's no sign the rate of new cases is slowing down.

So far, Colorado doesn't have any cases, though I think that's unlikely to continue all year, given the number of travel destinations with ongoing spread. In addition to South Carolina, public health officials have identified an outbreak at a university in Florida, a smattering of cases at a detention center and the general community in west Texas and exposures at the March for Life in Washington, D.C.
