Dear aaa,
For ten-year-old tigress Flora, life so far has been defined by suffering and isolation. Early in life, she formed a close bond with her brother Benjamin and a tiger named Negus, but she was torn from them and left to grow up without companions.
For the last decade, she has only known the confinement of her 2x2m enclosure with no enrichment and no proper care for her severe health issues.
Born in captivity at the former Zoo Luján in Argentina, Flora had a start in life that left her with no room to grow, roam or thrive. Now, after years of being overlooked, we are stepping in to change her story. |

An urgent case; we must act quickly
The former zoo where she lives was closed due to severe animal welfare concerns. When we accepted an invitation to conduct an initial assessment of the animals still there, we found a serious risk to their safety, health and wellbeing.
Flora was one of the first of over 60 big cats we examined. She was an urgent case due to her severely ingrown nails, which caused immense pain and suffering. |
To date, she’s only known a life of hardship
She has suffered from many ailments, leaving her in excruciating pain. Deformities in the bones of her feet have resulted in abnormal claw growth, which has significantly increased the risk of recurrent ingrown claws, particularly in her hind limbs.
Her severely ingrown claws had grown deep into her paws, which made it almost impossible for her to walk or even stand. The veterinary check also revealed dental problems, which will require additional dental care in the future. |
Flora is on her way to a fresh start
Her poor condition requires specialised medical diagnostics and rehabilitation that cannot be provided at the former zoo. Therefore, we are planning to transfer Flora to FELIDA Big Cat Sanctuary as a matter of urgency.
Despite everything she has endured, Flora has remained calm and gentle throughout. But the journey to FELIDA will not be easy. The transportation of a wild animal involves months of planning, extensive paperwork, and a challenging trip spanning thousands of kilometres.
Every step of this journey will be worth it if it means Flora can finally receive the specialised care she so urgently needs. But we can only make this happen with your help. |
Together, we can ensure Flora gets the future she deserves
Our sanctuary in the Netherlands is specialised in the care of traumatised big cats. At FELIDA, we can ensure Flora receives specialised care, and long-term monitoring in a species-appropriate environment to prevent ongoing pain and further ailments.
Only then can Flora step into the safe, compassionate future every tiger deserves.
Our sanctuaries and the animals we care for rely on regular gifts to keep going. aaa, please consider adopting Flora today.
-
Regular support through adoption helps cover essentials such as enrichment materials, fresh bedding, specialised food and more
-
A modest monthly gift adds up to consistent comfort and stability for animals recovering from past trauma
-
Monthly support means our caretakers can rely on steady resources to provide individualised care, from medication to behavioural training
|
Thank you for showing compassion when it matters most.
Warm regards,
Natalie Hood

P.S. If a regular gift isn’t possible right now, a one-off donation to our emergency mission in Argentina would still provide meaningful support for Flora and others like her. Thank you for giving what you can. |
