50 Famous Firsts for American Women

Thursday, March 12, 6-7 p.m. at Lubber Run

Throughout American history, women have broken barriers, shattered stereotypes and achieved many milestones, paving the way for future generations. These 50 famous firsts, from serving in the military to earning a medical degree to winning Olympic gold, highlight the extraordinary achievements of trailblazing women who dared to lead, innovate and inspire change in their respective fields. Presented by 55+ Operations Supervisor Cory Cox.

From Abigail Adams to the 19th amendment, the women's suffrage movement was a decades-long campaign to win the right to vote for women in the United States. Join 55+ Operations Supervisor Cory Cox to learn more about this essential part of American history.

Genealogy 101

Learn to use primary sources, grave sites, family records, history, DNA services like Ancestry.com and more to explore your family’s roots in a fun, friendly atmosphere. Topics suggested monthly by participants. Meets on the second Tuesday of each month under the guidance of experienced genealogist Eileen Bogdanoff.

History Roundtable

Take part in thought-provoking discussions about pivotal events in history. At you option, research and deliver a five-minute presentation on the month’s topic or listen and learn from others. In March, we'll discuss the 1840s. In April, we'll discuss the impact of trade routes. In May, we'll discuss South American leaders prior to the 1950s.

Instruments

Open Jam Session

1st & 3rd Thursdays, 6:30-8 p.m. at Lubber Run. Drop-in

Bring your favorite acoustic instrument (or your voice) and join volunteer Al Robertson for a relaxed jam featuring folk, country, classic rock, bluegrass, oldies and blues. We’ll play simple, easy-to-learn tunes (like 12-bar blues). All skill levels welcome. A digital piano is available. Feel free to bring chord/lyric sheets and a music stand. Meets on the first and third Thursday of the month.
