The Girls' Basketball team had a strong week, closing out the regular season and opening postseason play the right way.
On Monday, the Stallions hosted West Potomac and earned a 50-40 win. Senior Laila Tull led the way with 14 points, while junior Natalya Wooten added 13 points, 8 rebounds, and 5 steals in a dominant two-way performance.
They traveled to Lake Braddock on Wednesday for the final regular season game and finished with authority, winning 61-20. Junior Anna Marsh was locked in offensively, scoring 20 points, and Wooten continued to control the glass with 10 rebounds.
Friday marked the start of the district tournament as the Stallions hosted Alexandria City in the quarterfinals. As they have all season, the girls set the tone early and never looked back, earning a commanding 58-15 victory. A complete team effort and a strong statement to open postseason play.
Boys' Basketball started off the week with a hard-fought road win at West Potomac, pulling out a 59-51 victory in a back-and-forth battle that featured multiple lead changes.
On Wednesday, the Stallions hosted Lake Braddock for Senior Night in a high-intensity matchup. With the score tied late, South County had possession in the final minute but could not close it out, and Braddock scored in the final seconds to take a tough 54-52 win. While the result was not what they wanted, the effort and competitiveness were evident throughout.
Friday night brought postseason energy as the boys tipped off district tournament play in a doubleheader with the girls against Alexandria City. The Stallions started strong and finished stronger, rolling to a 75-30 win. A great response and a powerful way to begin the tournament run.
South County Indoor Track represented the Stallions with pride at the Regional Meet, highlighted by event championships, podium finishes, and strong all-around performances from both the girls and boys teams.
On the girls side, Amiyah Curry captured the Regional Championship in the Long Jump with a leap of 18-6.75, while Mykal Mason earned Regional Runner-Up honors in the Long Jump with a mark of 16-9.75 and added a 6th place finish in the Triple Jump. On the track, Matea Moreno placed 3rd in the 1600m run, and Kendall Williams earned a 4th place finish in the 1000m run. The 4x200 relay team finished 4th, and the 4x800 relay team placed 5th, showcasing strong depth and competitiveness across events.
The boys were led by Regional Champion Charles Brown IV, who claimed 1st place in the 55m dash with a blazing 6.47s. He also competed in the 300m dash. Andrew Desir added a 7th place finish in the 55m dash. In the field events, Zay McCain placed 5th in the long jump. On the distance side, Alex Featherly competed in the 3200m run and finished 12th in a competitive field.
Swim and Dive represented the Stallions this weekend at the Occoquan Region Meet, highlighted by multiple podium finishes and several state qualifications.
The girls finished 7th overall as a team in a highly competitive field. Leading the way was Anna Helms, who delivered an outstanding performance with a 2nd place finish in both the 50 Free and 100 Free, earning state qualifications in each event. Savannah Harris added another podium finish, placing 3rd in the 100 Butterfly to punch her ticket to the state meet. Helms and Harris teamed up with Ellie Trinh and Kira Clark to power the Stallions in relay action. The 200 Free Relay finished 3rd, and the 400 Free Relay placed 4th. Both relay teams qualified for the state meet, showcasing the depth, chemistry, and determination of this group. On the boys side, the team finished 9th in the region and was led by Ethan Jones, who placed 4th in the Backstroke and earned a state qualification with his performance. His effort set the tone for a strong showing by the boys in a deep regional field.
The Stallion Wrestling competed at the Region Meet on Thursday at Hayfield Secondary School, finishing 10th overall as a team while delivering several impressive individual performances.
At 106 lbs, Aidan Payne battled through a tough bracket and finished 3-2 on the day to earn a 5th place finish. His performance secured him a spot as a state alternate. At 120 lbs, Aaryan Sharma put together an outstanding run, pinning his way to the finals with dominant performances. He ultimately finished second after facing a strong opponent from West Springfield, earning Regional Runner-Up honors and punching his ticket to the state meet. And at 175 lbs, Blake Sanders took a quarterfinal loss, but responded with three consecutive wins to fight his way back through the consolation bracket. Sanders finished 4th overall and secured his spot at the state tournament as well.
The weather is slowing starting to warm up and the thick layer of snowcrete is gradually turning back to grass! Now its time to start looking to the spring season! Try-outs for Baseball, Softball, Lacrosse, Soccer, Tennis and Track & Field begin on Monday, February 23rd.

The annual South County physical night is coming soon so be sure to mark you calendars. Physical night will be on May 7th this year with appointments available at 5:30, 6:00, 6:30, 7:00 and 7:30.

Join Dynamite Sports for a one-hour seminar entitled “Guiding the College-Bound Athlete” on Monday March 16 at 6:00 p.m. in the auditorium.
It is not too early to prepare for playing college sports, so learning what it takes to be a college athlete mentally, physically, and especially ACADEMICALLY! This seminar will help our parents to be more knowledgeable and REALISTIC about athletic scholarships and the recruiting process.
This seminar will teach our parents and athletes how to:
- Setup COLLEGE Visits
- Receive a SCHOLARSHIP or GRANT
- Get NOTICED & RECRUITED
- Ensure NCAA Freshman Eligibility
- Create a “RECRUITING BLUEPRINT”
- Communicate with COLLEGE COACHES
- Why they should start as early as 8th grade
South County High School will be sponsoring a mulch sale with delivery scheduled for Saturday March 14th, 2026
The cost is $5.00 per 3 cu. ft. Bag of Premium double shredded hardwood bark mulch. Color is medium/dark brown only
South County’s Baseball, Boy’s Wrestling and Girl’s Wrestling Teams will deliver mulch to your home for a $10.00 fee. (Within a 10-mile radius of SCHS)
Orders may also be picked up at South County High School between 8am and 10:30am March 15th, 2025.
Order Forms with payment are due no later than March 7th, 2026.
