Growing up in an Italian household, everything is about food (picture above lol)
It's how we connect. It's what you do for someone when they're sick. It's how you unwind after a long day or week.
For some people, that works.
You and I might not be the type:
-
I will finish everything on my plate
-
I'll eat 10 chips while deciding if I want chips
-
After a meal, my mouth immediately wants a treat
Stressed. Happy. Sleepy. It all makes me want to eat.
Until I realized that I was doing this whole 'emotional eating' thing... I carried a LOT of extra body fat.
So here are a few strategies that helped me overcome it:
1) food logging
Being intentional about eating is huge for me.
2) mindful eating
Less distractions at meals. Seated at the table. Slowing it down with a sip of water in between bites.
3) noticing it early
When I feel emotional eating coming, I find different ways to manage those feelings before I'm neck deep in Oreos.
Try one of these strategies this week, and let me know how it works.
Hope this helps
