Practice Schedule for the Week

Coaches have the right to adjust the schedule as they see fit, so make sure you are getting whatever communication comes from your program. Many of our programs have varying time schedules for practice as all our programs work together to maximize practice space and utilize our facilities equally.

Booster Club Update

Our Booster Club Board is small but mighty! We can use all the help, so if you are interested in supporting our student athletes and the Boosters efforts, let us know and we can get you connected. There are plenty of opportunities to help and even if you think your skillset is not useful, we can find a way to make it useful!

The Booster Club handles all things concessions which is the single largest source of income for our athletics budget. FCPS does not supply a yearly budget, so outside of buses and officials, we have to fundraise for everything else. The Boosters and their efforts, allow us the ability to purchase all the things that our student athletes need and want. Some of their recent purchases include the windscreens around our facilities, the baseball turtle and supporting our youth clinics.

We have some big events coming up in the next month including three large wrestling events if you are looking for something to donate your time to. We will need plenty of help running our concession stand for these events, so please feel free to reach out.

Athletes of the Week

AOW

We were fortunate to have an incredible number of our student athletes represent Hayfield and Hawk Pride on their respective Fall All National District, Occoquan and Virginia State teams. See them all here - Hawks on the All National District Teams, Hawks on the All Occoquan Region Teams and Hawks on All State Who has next?

Kudos to all of our amazing student athletes that competed this Fall and to all our amazing student athletes that are competing for Winter teams! We look forward to seeing you all compete on the mats, in the pools, on the track and on the courts!

Our Winter teams have been competing with the best of them.

Gymnastics finished 2nd in the National District and concluded their season with a strong performance at the Regional meet.

Swim and dive finished 5th on the boys and girls side at the District meet. The one day event was highlighted by Ben Jacobs breaking the school record in both the 500 free and the 200 free. In total, we have 15 individuals and 6 relay teams that advanced to the Occoquan Region Swim meet.

Indoor track and field finished 2nd on the boys side after some exceptional individual performances in the district. The girls finished 2nd as well led by several outstanding individual performances in the district. While the girls finished 8th in the region, the boys finished 5th! Special shoutout to our pole vaulting crew making Telegraph Road the hub for all things pole vault, as both Malakai Gagnon and Sierra Guargno were Region Champs in their respective pole vault. Malakai won by over a foot and Sierra broke her own school record again!

Boys and girls basketball both finished at the top of the District standings making everyone come through Telegraph Road to win the district championship! Things start Monday night with a double header at 5:30 and 7:00!

Wrestling finished 3rd in the District behind an individual title by Brendan Maglathlin and runner up finishes for both Vincent Kamarck and Danniel Marshall! We hosted the Occoquan Region Tournament during the school day, where our team finished an impressive 8th place.

Our Special Olympics Unified basketball team finished their first season of competition this past weekend with a win. We are excited and proud of our Special Olympians and their mentors!

Spring sports will be starting on February 23rd, so make sure you get your VHSL Physical up to date and turned in, and complete the Arbiter online registration at the link that follows, so that you can get your green tryout card and not miss any tryouts.

Notes From Our Programs

Stay tuned for Amazon wish lists for all our programs in the near future. We have requests from the community to provide ways that our programs can be supported in small, subtle ways. All programs that would like to be involved and included will be tasked with providing a link to their wishlist to provide to the community.

Coach Drickey’s Thoughts and Ramblings

I urge you to take advantage of our Booster Club passes and gain entrance to all home regular season contests for the price of your membership. With that in mind, the expectation is that fans are coming to support and cheer for our team and our students, while making sure that we don’t make negative comments to officials or our opponents.

I know it is hard to imagine a time without all the snow on the ground after this long stretch, but make sure you hold off on purchasing your Spring mulch, as the Spring sports at Hayfield are selling mulch as a fundraiser. Order now using the following link - https://bit.ly/4qA0bS5

We are excited for our student athletes to demonstrate their success on the field and excel in the classroom, as we chase district, region, and state championships. Our goal is to make Hayfield THE school in Northern Virginia, Virginia proper and the entire country.

This week’s quote comes in the spirit of the Olympic Games. This one coming from the great Wilma Rudolph, “Never underestimate the power of dreams and the influence of the human spirits.” The challenge to all our student athletes is to certainly dream big, but also, never stop short of striving to achieve them!

We look forward to our athletes, coaches and supporters winning on the field, courts, mats, track and in the pools, and in the classroom with class and HAWK PRIDE!
