The city of Aurora offered a remembrance event at City Hall on Sunday to honor the victims of the mass shooting seven years ago at the Henry Pratt Co. facility in the city.

While the community grieved, it also rallied around the APD. And for the next year its law enforcement members were hailed as heroes for their efforts that prevented a horrible situation from becoming even worse.

The site is the first known safe house in the county to be verified as part of the federal initiative.

The event will be the district’s fourth annual symposium, and is meant to connect families with resources related to student mental health.

A juvenile was taken to the hospital and later released after being shot early Sunday morning on the near West Side of Aurora, police said.
