Tuesday night brings Trump’s first State of the Union Address of his second term in office. (A president’s year one address to Congress is technically called Address Before a Joint Session of Congress.) We all know that whatever it is we’re going to hear from the president Tuesday night, it’s not going to be the truth. Miles Taylor has an antidote for that. Miles was the Chief of Staff at DHS during the first Trump administration. He was the anonymous author of the 2018 New York Times op-ed “I Am Part of the Resistance Inside the Trump Administration,” which was a wake-up call for a lot of folks. Now, Miles heads a bipartisan group of former national security officials and elected officials called Defiance.org, which is “designed to help Americans push back peacefully, lawfully, and defiantly against presidential abuses of power.” This week, he’s organizing some counterprogramming to SOTU, and he joins us Monday morning at 11 a.m. ET/10 a.m. CT/8 a.m. PT on Substack Live to talk about it and let you know how to participate. It’s important, even though it’s annoying, frustrating, horrifying, disgusting—all of the things—to listen to Trump at this point. But let’s do it in community, with fact-checking, analysis, and camaraderie. Join Miles and me tomorrow morning to learn all about it.
