Tourism is booming, and the autonomous territory of Denmark isn’t shying away from that surge in interest as it plans to welcome double the number of tourists by 2035. Still, it wants visitors to travel responsibly and be respectful of their surroundings. For writer Domini Clark, that meant taking the time to learn about Inuit culture and history, embracing all the island has to offer and joining a tour that connects visitors with local life. And if there’s one piece of advice her guide wants visitors to take heed of, it’s “learn to be bored.” In other words, slow down and learn to soak in life by the fjord.
