Hi Huju,

Some ideas are best explored together, and that’s why we launched the New Scientist Book Club so you can discover the very best science and science fiction books and talk about them with fellow New Scientist readers.

Every month, we discuss a new title, with recent favourites including Daisy Fancourt’s Art Cure, a popular-science look at how the arts can transform our health; Tim Winton’s far-future-set climate change novel Juice; and the late Iain M. Banks’s sci-fi classic The Player of Games.

The book club is free to join, and there is still time to take part in reading April’s book, Red Mars by Kim Stanley Robinson. This sci-fi classic about terraforming Mars was published in 1992, but we’re reading it this month because Robinson’s crew of 100 hardy astronauts and scientists set off on their journey in 2026.

How does it work?

At the start of each month, you’ll receive a newsletter letting you know what our new read is, along with some exclusive extracts and articles. You can then join the discussion with other readers using our Discord channel, which will dig deep into the details of each title, and you’ll be able to pose questions for the book’s author there, too. Midway through the month, we’ll send you a video interview with our current author. We’ll end the month with a wrap-up of how Book Club members feel about the title. (Be warned: they don’t always agree!)

Happy reading!
