Hey Bob, At age seven, Jackie Chan's parents signed a contract saying the school could punish him to death if they felt like it. That's where he learned his second language. The place was a brutal Peking Opera school. Up at five a.m., lights out at eleven. He worked on singing, stick fighting, knife fighting... And if you got it wrong, you got the bamboo cane. (Not exactly Duolingo, is it?) Anyway... I've spent 25 years learning and teaching languages, and I thought I'd heard every story. But when I started digging into how Jackie actually went from that school to speaking eight languages, I found something I genuinely wasn't expecting. Because it wasn't talent. It wasn't some gift for accents. And it definitely wasn't a curriculum. It was something much simpler. Much harder to spot when you're in the middle of trying to learn a language yourself. My new video breaks it all down. If you've ever felt like you're putting the work in but not really getting anywhere... I think this one will hit differently. Check it out here. Chat soon, Olly |
