The angels minister to God’s servants in time of hardship and danger. ~Billy Graham I met the elderly man by the butcher counter in front of the marked-down meats as we both pawed through the shrink-wrapped soup bones and steaks, now faded to a putty shade of gray. I grabbed deli loaf ends of cheese and turkey, too small to be sliced by the store’s machine. After I ran them through my meat grinder at home, they would make good sandwiches for my family. Our food budget was tight, and I got creative with our meals — sometimes very creative, like Hamburger Helper without the hamburger. “You have beautiful children,” commented the old man. I thanked him and turned back to my cart. The baby sat in the seat, the four-year-old leaned back precariously from the end of the cart, and my seven-year-old stood reading the back of a cereal box. Their combination of auburn hair and deep brown eyes often drew comments. (Keep reading)
