Ace Hardware Member Update
I meant to reply sooner, but the week got away from me and I just now had a quiet minute to sit down.
I did end up trying that route you suggested, and it was much calmer than the main path, especially once the afternoon crowd cleared out a little.
I brought a light jacket and was glad I did because it cooled off more quickly than I expected once the sun dipped behind the trees.
On the way back I stopped for tea and spent a while people-watching, which somehow reset my whole mood.
I also remembered the book you mentioned and put it on hold, so I should have it by the weekend if timing works out.
Next time I would probably start earlier, wear older shoes, and leave myself more time to wander without checking the clock every few minutes.

I finally sorted out the shelves in the hallway, and it turned out to be much easier once I stopped trying to make everything fit in one pass.
I moved a few things into smaller groups, labeled what actually needed labels, and left the rest alone so the space could breathe a little.
It looks less perfect than I imagined, but it feels much better to use, which is probably the part that matters most anyway.
I also took your advice about keeping a small note nearby, and that helped me remember the odds and ends I usually forget until the very last second.
The whole process reminded me that I tend to overcomplicate simple tasks when I’m tired.
If you want, I can send over the rough list I made because it ended up being practical without becoming one more thing to maintain every day.
