FCPS School Year Calendar
Edison Community,
It has been a busy week here at Edison as we begin to close out April. We’ve had several senior nights, and it’s been great to celebrate our student-athletes in baseball, girls lacrosse, and track and field. Tonight, we’ll continue those celebrations with softball senior night. These moments are always special, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to recognize the commitment and contributions of our seniors alongside their families and coaches.
Also, this evening, Dr. Reid is hosting a boundary meeting for families in the Bren Mar Park area at 6 pm in the cafeteria. If this impacts your family, I strongly encourage you to attend and make your voice heard. Your input matters in this process.
Last night, we had the opportunity to celebrate our electrical construction and engineering class and their hard work this year. A big thank you to Joe Wolfe and our Academy team for putting together such a strong event that highlights our students' talent and dedication.
Thank you as well to everyone who joined us for the PTSA meeting on Tuesday night. We appreciated the engagement and partnership, and we’re especially grateful to our school board members, Dr. Richardy Anderson and Mrs. Marcia St. John-Cunning, for taking the time to join us and connect with our community.
Looking ahead to the weekend, tomorrow is the Best Buddies Friendship Walk in DC. I’m excited to see members of our community out there supporting inclusion and representing Edison. We will also be hosting a Padres Latinos meeting on Saturday at 10 am in the cafeteria, and welcome all of our families to join us.
As we head into the final week of April, this is a good time to reset and stay focused. We need to finish the year strong. Daily attendance and being on time continue to matter, and your support at home makes a difference. For our seniors, we’re also looking ahead to prom on Friday, May 1, at the CrystalView. It’s an exciting time, and we want everyone to stay on track as we approach these milestone events.
Have a great weekend, and I hope to see many of you out at our events.

English teacher Michelle Alspaugh led an impactful Lunch and Learn professional development session on April 22, 2026, in recognition of Autism Awareness Month. Drawing from her unique perspective as both an educator and a parent of three neurodivergent children—one with autism—Ms. Alspaugh guided staff through a deeper understanding of how the neurological experiences of students with autism can shape their emotional, social, and academic lives.
Participants gained insight into the often unseen sensory and physiological challenges autistic students may face in a mainstream classroom. Through thoughtful discussion and real-world examples, Ms. Alspaugh emphasized the importance of empathy and awareness in creating supportive learning environments. Her session encouraged staff to consider how intentional practices can help students feel understood, safe, and ready to thrive.
This week we celebrated our student-athletes in baseball, girls lacrosse, and track and field. Thank you, seniors for your leadership and commitment. We can't wait to see what you accomplish next!
The following immunizations are required for students entering 7th and 12th grade each school year.
All students entering 12th grade are to receive two doses of the Meningococcal vaccine (MenACWY) prior to the beginning of school. To meet the MenACWY 12th grade requirement, one dose must be administered at age 16 or older.
Parents and guardians are encouraged to plan ahead by scheduling an appointment with your child’s health care provider now to avoid the rush this summer. Please consider getting your child’s immunizations early so that they can attend school in the fall. Summer is a busy time for families and healthcare providers. As long as your child meets the age requirements listed above, they can be immunized at any time.
Immunization Events for FCPS Students
FCPS, in partnership with Inspire Health Alliance, will provide school-required immunizations and optional flu shots for all FCPS students at no out-of-pocket cost. Multiple events will take place at designated FCPS locations.
Dates will be made available throughout the school year. Parents or guardians may view upcoming events and schedule an appointment for their student. Participation is voluntary. Additional immunization resources are also available.
In honor of Earth Day, our students stepped up and spoke out through their Global STEM Challenges presentations—sharing powerful call-to-action campaigns that truly inspired! They encouraged us to rethink our everyday habits and showed how even the smallest changes can make a big impact on our planet!
Nominations are now open for the 2026 Dr. Lawrence Bussey Memorial Equity Award. This award recognizes an employee, student, or community member who has demonstrated significant and impactful efforts to improve the educational experiences and outcomes of students from groups who are marginalized or underserved.
Any staff, student, or community member can nominate an individual for the award. All nomination materials must be submitted by Monday, May 18.
The Minority Student Achievement Oversight Committee (MSAOC) sponsors this award to honor the legacy of Dr. Bussey, a founding member of the MSAOC and a longtime advocate for students and families.
Full details and the nomination information form can be found at the Dr. Lawrence Bussey Memorial Equity Award webpage.
Our students celebrated Day Prom at Crystal View—dancing their hearts out, sharing laughs, and making memories they’ll never forget. It was a day full of joy, connection, and nonstop smiles!

For the third year in a row, Edison proudly hosted the Pyramid Art Show and it was nothing short of amazing! We loved exploring incredible artwork from students of all ages, showcasing so much creativity and talent.
A huge thank you to Clermont, Bush Hill, Rose Hill, Mount Eagle, Franconia, and Cameron Elementary Schools, along with Twain Middle, for sharing their students’ work.
And a special shout-out to our own Mrs. Utech, Mrs. Garriott, Mr. Nelson, Mr. Dicillo, and Ms. Wallace for inspiring and supporting Edison’s budding artists every day!
Tuesday night was filled with music and energy as the Edison Guitar Ensemble, Jazz Band, Percussion, and more took the stage for an incredible evening! Student soloists truly shined, and the crowd felt every moment.
Such a fun night for all—and we’re already counting down to the Edison Band Spring Concert in May!
