News From Irving MS

Message from Principal:

Dear Irving MS Families,

As we move toward the end of the school year, we want to ensure a safe and focused learning environment for all students. Recently, we have seen an increase in students bringing toys to school, including water guns. While these items may seem harmless, they can be disruptive to instruction and may cause confusion or concern.  Additionally, many water guns look like a real weapon and can alarm students and staff.

We ask for your support in reminding your child to keep toys at home so that we can maintain a positive and productive school environment for everyone. Your partnership helps us finish the school year strong and ensures that all students can stay engaged in their learning.

Thank you for your continued support.

Sincerely,

Kathleen Quigley, Interim Principal

School career fair

During our career fair, students will be rotating through a series of small room presentations run by parents and professionals to learn about future career possibilities.  In addition to small group presentations, large group sites will be set up with professionals from across the county and parents to talk about future education and employment options. We are looking for presenters for both options. Please complete this form if you are interested in participating. If you have any questions, please contact Katie Richter at kerichter@fcps.edu.

Recurring Irving MS News

Library News:

This week we had the pleasure of meeting with Ms. Gilliams’ 8th grade classes to do a pre-reading activity for Lois Lowry’s classic, The Giver.

Most students in the school now have a book that they’re reading for their English class.  Like Ms. Gilliam’s classes, 8th grade students have selected a title from among several novels for a Dystopian Fiction unit.  7th graders are reading a fiction book of their choice.  We are happy to discuss any of the Dystopian books with 8th grade students.  7th grade students should reach out to us if they’d like to switch books, or if they’d like to discuss their novels.
