After almost two years, footy fans in central Queensland will have extra reason to cheer on their local team this weekend.
Hundreds of rugby league supporters and general sports enthusiasts are expected to attend the official opening of the new Browne Park stadium in Rockhampton on Saturday night.
The Capras's round eight Queensland Cup clash with the Burleigh Bears will headline the grand opening celebrations.
It will be the club's first home match of the season after opting to play all their games on the road until the ground redevelopment was complete.
CQ rugby league stars and Melbourne Storm duo Cameron Munster and Harry Grant will also make a special return home for the game after their NRL showdown with the Dolphins in Brisbane on Friday night.
I'm sure the Queensland State of Origin pair have some special memories of playing at Browne Park growing up in CQ.
Construction began on the $63 million Browne Park stadium upgrade in mid-2024 for a three-tier grandstand with 3,200 seats, which has doubled the venue's capacity.
How about the size of the light towers too!
The revamped grounds will also serve to attract other big events to the region.
On another note, good luck to the Capras on Saturday night as they search for their fourth straight win.
Have a great week and remember, if you have a story idea drop an email to Rockhampton.Regional@abc.net.au and make sure you like our ABC Capricornia Facebook page for links to all of our stories.
