Arlington County & Falls Church Residents Invited to Interactive Data Walk on Local Prosecution and Diversion Programs

WHO:
Office of the Commonwealth’s Attorney for Arlington County and the City of Falls Church.

WHAT:
Pathways to Progress — a free, interactive community data walk designed specifically for Arlington County and Falls Church residents. The exhibit presents local prosecution data and highlights diversion initiatives and reform policies implemented by Commonwealth’s Attorney Parisa Dehghani-Tafti.

Community members will learn:

How the Commonwealth Attorney’s Office approaches local cases
How diversion programs are working in Arlington and Falls Church
How data is used to promote fairness, safety, and accountability in the local justice system

The event is a self-guided walking tour, each staffed by members of the Commonwealth Attorney’s Office to explain the data and answer questions. Light refreshments will be provided.

This event will include 6 different stations where you can talk to representatives from our office about the data you see displayed on each screen. Walk through each station in order or pop around the room.

Our Six Stations Include:

1. Context and Background: The History of Prosecution and the Criminal Justice Reform Movement

2. Vision: Our Values, Policies, Trial Case Trends, Successful Trial Strategy, and our effort to create Diversion programs

3. About OCA: Who we are, What we do, Our staff

4. Impact: How we keep our community safe, Restorative Justice success stories, Meet our Diversion partners - OAR and Restorative Arlington

5. Challenges: Implications of COVID-19 Pandemic, Case Trends for Arlington County and the City of Falls Church, Systemic barriers

6. Into the Future: How we are working to improve transparency and data collection through new case management software in order to better serve victims and our community.

(The exhibit will be the same on both days.)

WHY IT MATTERS FOR LOCAL AUDIENCES:
This event offers a rare, behind-the-scenes look at how prosecution decisions affect local communities and how Arlington and Falls Church are using data-driven reforms and diversion programs to improve outcomes while maintaining public safety.

Commonwealth’s Attorney, Parisa Dehghani-Tafti said, “I’m excited that we are able to pull back the curtain on the office, even in the faces of the challenges and obstacles we have had to overcome to get here. It is a start of what we hope will be enhanced transparency and engagement with the community.”
