Computer Solutions learning to code using Micro:bits, pocket-sized computers; CO2 Car racing in Tech Ed; students working on a Math Roadtrip.
Franklin Community,
This week, our students completed the Science SOL assessment, and I want to commend all of our students for the way they approached the day. Our 8th graders demonstrated excellent focus, perseverance, and effort throughout the assessment. I also want to thank our 7th graders for doing such a great job respecting the testing environment while participating in their Science review activities. Creating a calm and focused atmosphere for testing requires cooperation from everyone, and our students did a great job!
Looking ahead, our Math SOL assessment will take place next Tuesday for both 7th and 8th grade students. We encourage students to come to school well-rested, with their charged laptop, and ready to do their best. Thank you, as always, for your support at home as we continue through SOL season.
We also want to congratulate our Track team on an outstanding performance last weekend. Our girls team placed 1st overall, and our boys team finished 2nd overall in an incredibly competitive meet. Franklin athletes earned individual first place finishes in the girls 1600m, boys 100m, boys 200m, girls 400m, and girls 4x400 relay. We also had second place finishes in the girls 800m, boys 100m, boys shot put, and boys 4x400 relay. We are incredibly proud of all of our athletes for the hard work, dedication, and sportsmanship they demonstrated throughout the meet. Thank you as well to our coaches and families for supporting our students this season. Go Falcons!
Congratulations are also in order for our Jazz Ensemble following their performance last Friday. The group earned superior ratings from all three judges and finished in 4th place overall, which is an outstanding accomplishment. We are especially excited to share that one Franklin student was awarded a scholarship to attend the National Jazz Workshop this summer. We are incredibly proud of our student musicians and grateful to Ms. Magwire for her leadership and dedication in helping our students grow and succeed through music.
Lastly, I want to remind families about the upcoming community meetings related to the Skyview and Western Pyramids boundary study. The meetings will take place on May 28 from 6:00-8:00 pm and May 30 from 9:00-11:00 am. These sessions will provide families with the most up-to-date information as we move toward Dr. Reid making a boundary recommendation to the School Board in July for consideration.
I understand that this process can create stress and uncertainty for many families. Boundary conversations are deeply personal because they impact students, friendships, routines, and school communities. While I know that does not make the process easier, I do believe that staying informed and engaged can be helpful as decisions continue to move forward. We encourage families to attend the meetings, ask questions, and remain involved throughout the process.
Have a great weekend. Go Falcons!

We're One-Third of the Way to Our Goal!
Welcome back to all our families to another busy school year! We're grateful to everyone who has already joined the PTA this year! So far, we're only about one-third of the way to meeting our membership goal. Your membership dollars go directly back into supporting our students, teachers, and classrooms by covering a variety of costs from classroom resources and teacher appreciation to student enrichment opportunities and more.
While we anticipated membership numbers might dip compared to last year, we're hopeful that families who are able can help close the gap. In addition to the standard $25 membership, please consider subscribing to the $50, $75, or $100 levels. Every extra contribution makes a big difference and helps reduce the need for heavier fundraisers later in the school year. Click here to register for membership, and please try to do so as soon as possible.
