Hey I wanted to circle back on the neighborhood cleanup day we talked about at the last council meeting. I think the second Saturday of the month would be the best option since most people have that morning open. We could start around 9 AM and wrap up by noon so folks still have their afternoon. The main areas that need attention are the community garden border and the walking path along the creek. I can bring rakes and trash bags if someone else can handle gloves and pick-up tools. We should coordinate with the parks department to get a dumpster dropped off at the lot near the entrance. Last year we had about fifteen volunteers show up which was plenty to cover the grounds. I will send a reminder email a few days before to confirm the headcount. The weather forecast looks mild for that weekend so we should be in good shape. Let me know if you think we should also trim back the overgrown shrubs near the bench area. I can bring my pruning shears if needed. Also we might want to set up a rotating schedule so the cleanup happens every quarter rather than just once a year. I will bring some refreshments and water to keep everyone hydrated while we work.

I was thinking about the community garden layout we sketched out a few weeks ago and wanted to share some thoughts. The raised bed placement near the south side gets the most sunlight throughout the day so that area would work well for tomatoes and peppers. The north corner stays shadier which would suit leafy greens and herbs better. I measured the available space and we could fit about eight 4x8 foot beds without crowding the pathways. We would need to run a water line from the spigot near the shed which is about forty feet away. Drip irrigation would be the most efficient approach and would save water over the long run. I can help with the trenching and pipe installation next weekend if you are available. The soil test came back with decent pH but low nitrogen so we should add some compost and an organic amendment before planting. I will pick up a load of compost from the municipal supply if we can arrange a pickup time. Also we should decide on a crop rotation plan so the beds stay productive through the season. Let me know if you want to meet at the site this weekend to finalize the layout and mark the bed locations.
