Hey there, outdoors folks!

If you're looking for something to do this weekend, I suggest you consider heading to Outside Days at the Auraria Campus. It's a party, a film and music festival, and a place to hear compelling speakers share thought-provoking ideas. I think the discussion that El Capitan free solo climber Alex Honnold will have with Mount Everest skier Jim Morrison will be fascinating. For details, see the story below.

Heads up

High temperatures this weekend in the metro area will be 78 to 81 degrees with sunny skies and a chance of thunderstorms. The high country can expect temperatures in the 50s on Friday, 40s on Saturday and 50s on Sunday.

The Outside Festival, which attracted 35,000 people last year, moves to the Auraria Campus for year three this weekend. It has been renamed Outside Days. (Provided by the Outside Festival)

Your Weekly 5:

  2. El Paso County coroner identifies hiker who died on Manitou Incline
  3. Big balloons will rise above Colorado’s heat this summer; watch ’em soar or take a ride
  4. Denver metro bear sightings likely to increase amid Colorado drought
  5. Releasing cool water protects fish in the Grand Canyon. That comes at a cost to hydropower

Why did Rocky Mountain keep its reservation system while other national parks scrapped theirs?

Yosemite, Arches and Glacier eliminated their reservation systems this year. Did they yield to political pressure?
