Argus, is that you? If you’re not familiar with Greek mythology, Argus is a many-eyed giant who serves as a watchman for the goddess Hera. You’re probably wondering why we’re talking about mythology on a Thursday. Well, Duke University engineers are developing a very unique robot named after everyone’s second-favorite giant (behind Polyphemus, of course).

Duke’s robot gives us some vivid Covid flashbacks because of its design—which is also where it gets its name. Argus has a central core and 20 telescoping legs, each with cameras attached (many-eyed, get it?). It can reportedly “see and move in any direction instantly,” including climbing up parallel walls, Assassin’s Creed-style. You can watch the unsettling way Argus moves around here.
