Stephen Colbert and the Future of Late Night |
The Little Gold Men team is back from Cannes. We’ve left behind the croissants and rosé, but we brought home some thoughts on those Palme d’Or winners.
I’m Rebecca Ford, and this week on the podcast, we wrap up our final thoughts on this year’s Cannes Film Festival. Luckily, the festival finished on a strong note, with a couple of big buys (Netflix swooped up the late sensation The Black Ball for example, and A24 bought Jordan Firstman’s Club Kid). And in more good news, we’ll definitely be seeing many of these films again as contenders during awards season. |
Speaking of awards, we’re shifting back to Emmy season this week and taking a close look at the late-night space. With Stephen Colbert’s finale airing this past week, we were joined by Vanity Fair special correspondent Joy Press to discuss how his final show went (good!) and what the future of late night looks like (not so good!). We also explore how shows from influencers involving subways and chicken shops are infiltrating the space—and how they differ from traditional late night in ways both good and bad.
Finally, we take a look at this year’s late-night Emmys race, which will be very different from years past. The rules have changed, potentially resulting in more than one winner in this category! Learn more below: |
