Rocky Run Middle School PTA Newsletter
A Final Note of the year from the RRMS PTA
As the 2025–2026 school year comes to a close, the RRMS PTA would like to take a moment to reflect on a wonderful year and, most importantly, say thank you.
Before we wrap things up, we want to express our deep appreciation for all of your support throughout the year. We truly could not do what we do without our Rocky Run families. From donations and volunteering, to decorating trunks, attending Spirit Nights, supporting teacher appreciation events, and sharing your talents at Rocky Run’s Got Talent, we are so lucky to be part of such an engaged, generous, and dynamic community.
We would also like to thank the PTA Board members who served this year:
Kimberly Lorjuste, Vice President — our fundraising force of nature
Balraj Balagurunathan, Treasurer — our budget guru and bill-paying hero
Amy Bain, Marketing Director — our flyer magician and social media star
Grace Roh, Hospitality Chair — our event-planning pro and hospitality hero
And most importantly, we extend our heartfelt thanks to our fearless leader and PTA President, Dr. Daphne Carter-McCants. Thank you for your leadership, dedication, and commitment to making this a fabulous year for our students, staff, and families.
One last quick reminder to join us for our final PTA event of the year:
Chalk the Walk! Help us celebrate our 8th graders by filling the sidewalks with colorful, encouraging, and inspirational messages as they get ready for their next big adventure.
Stop by anytime between 4:30–7:30 PM on Tuesday, June 9 to decorate the walkways. Everyone is invited, and the PTA will provide all the chalk.
Let’s make it bright, cheerful, and full of Rocky Run spirit!
Now onto the 2025-2026 PTA Wrap Up!
PTA Membership
We had a strong membership year and are grateful for everyone who joined and supported the PTA.
- Parents/Guardians: 103 members (target 115)
- Staff: 32 members (target 30)
- Business: 1 member
Events and Activities
The PTA Board was busy throughout the year, participating in Rams Rally, Back to School Night, Student Orientation, Fall Family Night, Rising 7th Grade Curriculum Night and Electives Fair, and Virginia PTA Day at the Capitol.
We also hosted several fun community events, including Trunk or Treat and Rocky Run’s Got Talent, a wonderful showcase of our students’ creativity, confidence, and talent. We are especially grateful to Mrs. Meghan F. Pafumi, RRMS Theatre Director, for the tremendous time, energy, and dedication she put into making the talent show such a success.
Thanks to our Rocky Run community, the PTA raised $3,383 through our No Fuss Fundraiser! We are grateful to everyone who participated, and especially to Kimberly Lorjuste, who put the “fun” in fundraiser and handled all the “fuss” behind the scenes.
Because of fundraising efforts like the No Fuss Fundraiser and our Spirit Nights, the PTA was able to support many school programs and activities this year, including the Rocky Run Mentoring Program, National Junior Honor Society Toy Drive, UNO cards for the library, Career Day, WIDA, and the 8th Grade Celebration.
We were also proud to have PTA President Dr. Daphne Carter-McCants represent Rocky Run at Virginia PTA Day at the Capitol, where she advocated for students, families, and school communities across Virginia.
 Supporting Our Teachers and Staff
This year, the PTA continued to show appreciation for the incredible Rocky Run teachers and staff who do so much for our students every day.
We helped Stock the Teachers’ Lounge, hosted multiple Teacher Snack Days, and celebrated Teacher Appreciation Week with a Teacher/Staff Appreciation Breakfast and a delicious Dessert Bar. We are especially grateful to Grace Roh, who organized many of these events with such care, generosity, and, yes grace.
We also recognized many of the wonderful people who help keep Rocky Run running, including administrative professionals, bus drivers, school lunch heroes, custodians, and more.
 Honoring Retiring Rocky Run Staff
We would like to take this opportunity to recognize three Rocky Run staff members who are retiring from FCPS this year. Several PTA Board members presented each of them with a plaque in recognition of their hard work, dedication, and service to the Rocky Run Middle School community. We are grateful for their many years of service and the lasting impact they have had on Rocky Run students, staff, and families.
2026–2027 RRMS PTA Board
Please join us in welcoming the elected members of the 2026–2027 RRMS PTA Board!
The 2026–2027 Board was elected at the May 14 PTA meeting, and will officially assume their roles at the conclusion of the June 11 meeting.
A special shoutout to Balraj Balagurunathan for reprising his role as Treasurer. Once again, Balraj has agreed to keep our books balanced, our receipts wrangled, and our PTA financially respectable.
Please visit the PTA website to read each board member’s bio. The Secretary position is still open. If you are interested in serving, please email rockyrunmspta@gmail.com.
And that’s a wrap on the 2025–2026 RRMS PTA school year!
Thank you for being part of such a wonderful year at Rocky Run. Whether you volunteered, donated, attended an event, joined the PTA, or simply cheered us on, your support helped make our school community stronger.
We are so grateful for this community and proud of everything we accomplished together. We wish our Rocky Run students, families, teachers, and staff a wonderful summer and all the best in the year ahead.
With gratitude,The RRMS PTA
