We hope you take time to read through the report to learn more about the exceptional work performed by our officers and professional staff to prevent and solve crime, maintain transportation safety and work in partnership with the Arlington community.” 2025 Crime Statistics Overview The Annual Report is the official release of crime and crash statistics by the police department for the preceding year. Year-end crime statistics are submitted to Virginia State Police in March, based upon the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s National Incident-Based Reporting System (NIBRS) format. Investigative updates, as well as the re-classification of cases, can occur throughout the year, making the data dynamic as amendments are made. The most updated data, which may not be consistent with what is included in this report, is available on the Virginia State Police website. The overall crime rate in Arlington County, reported as Group A Offenses (defined on page 16 of the Annual Report), declined -10.9% in 2025, the first decline since 2018. NIBRS breaks down Group A Offenses by three categories: Crimes Against Persons, Crimes Against Property and Crimes Against Society. Reported crimes against persons offenses marginally increased 0.5%, primarily driven by an increase in intimidation offenses. Reported crimes against property, the most commonly reported crime type, declined by -14.9%, with marked decreases in most categories. Reported crimes against society offenses slightly increased 1.7%, primarily driven by drug equipment violations. Group B Adult Arrests, defined on page 16 of the Annual Report, increased by 20.3% compared to 2024 totals. A detailed summary of annual crime statistics begins on page 17 of the Annual Report.
