Calendar Survey: Your Feedback Matters!
FCPS values your input as we plan future school calendars. On Friday, June 5, all caregivers and FCPS staff will receive an email from noreply@fcps.edu containing a unique link to complete the FCPS Calendar Survey.
Please take a few minutes to share your priorities and perspectives by Monday, June 22, at 11:59 p.m.
Your individual responses will be kept confidential and will not be shared with school staff or used in any way that identifies you or your student. Only aggregate, summary-level results will be reported to the Fairfax County School Board.
If you do not receive a link to the survey or have technical difficulties completing the survey, please contact the FCPS Office of Research and Program Evaluation.
Students Earn National Merit College-Sponsored Scholarships
Eight FCPS students from six high schools have been named winners of 2026 Merit Scholarship awards by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC). This is in addition to 31 students who won awards from the NMSC and nine who won National Merit Corporate-Sponsored Scholarships.
Reid Reflects: A STRONG Culture at Bull Run Elementary

Students Compete to Create Apps That Change Lives

Chantilly High School student Meghana Nannapaneni won over a panel of expert judges, earning first place in Fairfax County’s 10th annual Shark Tank Technology Challenge with her project, Sage4Health.
Her innovative application directly tackles two of the most pressing challenges facing the aging population: cognitive decline and social isolation. Read more about Meghana’s project and other FCPS Shark Tank winners.
The annual competition challenges high school students from across the Northern Virginia region to develop viable, compassionate assistive technologies or mobile apps designed to enhance the lives of older adults and individuals with disabilities.
Woodson Senior Gains Skills and Confidence at Falls Church Academy
 Jeremy Chao, a graduating senior, enrolled this year in the EMT program at Falls Church Academy. Before this, he completed the Introduction to Nursing course, where he earned his Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification.
While finishing up his senior year at Woodson, he works part-time as a nursing assistant at a local nursing and rehabilitation center, providing resident care under the direction of nursing staff.

Educate Fairfax Awards $91,500 in Scholarships at Beyond the Tassel Celebration

Educate Fairfax recently celebrated the accomplishments and aspirations of FCPS seniors during its second annual Beyond the Tassel scholarship celebration. At the event, the foundation awarded a record $91,500 through 47 scholarships to students representing 18 FCPS high schools.

Discover Exciting Summer Learning Activities and Ideas at FCPS’ Summer Extravaganza!

Join FCPS for a free, family-friendly community celebration filled with hands-on STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math), arts, and creative experiences for students of all ages. This year’s Summer Extravaganza is Saturday, June 6, from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., at Woodson High School.
Explore summer learning resources and connect with FCPS offices and community partners. Don’t miss the food trucks, robotics demonstrations, petting zoo, and activities designed to spark learning, growth, and inspiration for the whole family.

Summer is the perfect time to help your student explore new interests, reinforce concepts, and stay engaged! FCPS’ Summer Learning webpage offers ideas and strategies for families to keep students curious until August.
Register Today for Summer Camps and Enrichment Programs
Registration closes Friday, June 5, for summer camps and learning opportunities offered to all students by FCPS. Offerings include Career and Technical Education camps, Institute for the Arts camps, and Production Camp.
FCPS Puzzle Hunt Is Live!
The third annual Fairfax County Public Schools Puzzle Hunt is open to solvers of all ages and is a great way to keep students and families engaged in fun, creative problem-solving during the summer. It also teaches bike and pedestrian safety and encourages active transportation. Sign up for the Puzzle Hunt!
Summer Meals for Students
Starting Monday, June 22, no-cost meals will be provided to students on a first-come, first-served basis at the sites and times listed on the FCPS Summer Food Service Program webpage. Students must remain on site while eating their meals.
This year, thanks to generous support from Educate Fairfax, families may also receive one no-cost breakfast and lunch per adult at the following elementary schools: Braddock, Dogwood, Glen Forest, Hutchison, Hybla Valley, and London Towne.
Summer sites will continue to be added, so check the Summer Food Service webpage regularly for updates.
Summer Immunization Events for All FCPS Students
Inspire Health Alliance, in partnership with FCPS, will be providing school-required immunizations this summer. Immunizations will be provided at no out-of-pocket cost to students or families. Registering families will be required to provide insurance information, if applicable, but students without insurance may still participate.
Visit the FCPS and Inspire Health Alliance Student Immunization Events webpage for dates, times, and locations. Additional event dates will be shared four to five weeks prior to the event and posted on the webpage. Additional immunization resources are also available.
Please Check Your Student’s MySchoolBucks Balance
As we approach the end of the school year, it is important to check your student’s MySchoolBucks account and pay any remaining school meal balance.
Free and Reduced-Price Meals
Families who earn less than 185% of the federal poverty level qualify for free and reduced-price meals (FRM). However, an application must be completed and submitted each school year to receive that benefit.
If you have a current balance and think you may be eligible for free and reduced-price meals, please fill out the FRM application for the 2025-26 school year. The application for the 2026-27 school year will be available this summer.
Calendar Reminders: Last Day of School
Last Day of School (Early Dismissal)
Wednesday, June 17, is the last day of school. All secondary schools and high schools will operate on a two-hour school day schedule:
- High schools: 8 to 10 a.m.
- Secondary schools: 8:10 to 10:10 a.m.
All middle and elementary schools will operate on a two-hour early release schedule that day. Check with your child’s school for its dismissal time.
2026-27 First Day of School
Monday, August 24, is the first day of school for the 2026-27 school year! Be sure to bookmark the 2026-27 School Year Calendar.

The last regular issue of FCPS This Week for the 2025-26 school year will be published on Wednesday, June 10.
Trades Scholarship Application
If you’re seeking a career in the electrical, plumbing, or HVAC trades, FCPS Adult and Community Education (ACE) can help you get started with a certified Apprenticeship program and a $1,000 scholarship toward your classes.
Apply for the scholarship between Monday, June 15, and Saturday, August 15. The $1,000 scholarship can be used toward an FCPS ACE Trades Apprenticeship class starting this fall.
Unearth a Story With Summer Reading

The Fairfax County Public Library Summer Reading Adventure will take place from Wednesday, June 17, to Wednesday, August 19. Visit the Summer Reading webpage to learn how to sign up to participate and earn prizes!
Children’s Summer Reading Festival
Fairfax Library Foundation will celebrate FCPL’s annual summer reading program with a free Children’s Summer Reading Festival at the Fairfax County Government Center on Saturday, June 13, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Families can enjoy games, crafts, face painting, a bounce house, snacks, and other activities.
