Minnesotans young and not got out and created agency by resisting the invasion of our communities and state. It was massively empowering to believe and act on the idea that we create community and safety together. Action overcomes anxiety. “No Kings” rallies were a place and event where you could feel strength and power in numbers — the day-to-day creation of community and the feeling of personally belonging to change came, and comes, from the smaller local acts of leadership, empathy and love expressed in defending individuals, calling out and monitoring ICE, helping others stay housed and sheltered, etc. No large organization did it for us.
