National Doughnut Day 2026: Where to find free and discounted doughnuts

Who can resist a warm, pillowy doughnut fresh out of the oven?

If you’re looking for an excuse to treat yourself, you’ll be happy to know that Friday, June 5, is National Doughnut Day.

The annual celebration always happens on the first Friday in June. The first-ever National Doughnut Day took place in Chicago in 1938 to honor the history of the Salvation Army’s Donut Lassies. This group of women were sent to France in 1917 to care for wounded soldiers and provide a boost of morale in doughnut form.

CBS News' Bari Weiss addresses ‘unfortunate' firing of Scott Pelley

CBS News Editor-in-Chief Bari Weiss, speaking to network employees Wednesday about the firing of “60 Minutes” correspondent Scott Pelley, said newsroom leaders could not “find a way back” with the veteran journalist — a comment he flatly rejected in a statement of his own.

The back-and-forth illustrated the turmoil engulfing “60 Minutes,” America’s top-rated and most prestigious newsmagazine. The upheaval started last Thursday with the ouster of key senior staff members and deepened on Monday when Pelley, a 37-year veteran of CBS, laced into the newly installed “60 Minutes” executive producer Nick Bilton at a heated meeting.

“I hope I speak, I know I speak for myself, and I hope I speak for everyone here when I say that I’m only interested in working in a newsroom that is built on trust and mutual respect. We cannot do our work without it,” Weiss told CBS News employees Wednesday. “That foundation was broken on Monday, and despite our attempts to engage with Scott Pelley and to find a way back, unfortunately we weren’t able to do so, and so we had to part ways.”

Britell — the composer known for “Succession,” “Moonlight” and “Andor” — envisioned a piece that the league said, “draws inspiration from the emotional progression of basketball, from anticipation and momentum shifts to the defining moments that shape outcomes.”

Shia LaBeouf gets probation after pleading guilty to punching bargoers during Mardi Gras

Actor Shia LaBeouf pleaded guilty Wednesday to three counts of simple battery and was sentenced to probation for punching people outside a New Orleans bar during Mardi Gras in February.

LaBeouf will also be required to attend an alcohol treatment program under the sentence handed down by an Orleans Parish judge, according to Sarah Chervinsky, an attorney for the actor.

LeBeouf, most widely known for his starring roles in 2007’s “Transformers” and in 2008’s “Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull,” had been released on bail following his arrest near the city’s historic French Quarter. Video of the Feb. 17 encounter shows a shirtless LaBeouf outside a bar shoving one person to the ground and hitting another person in the face, “causing his nose to possibly dislocate,” according to a New Orleans police report.

CBS News fires ‘60 Minutes' correspondent Scott Pelley after clash with new producer

CBS News has fired veteran “60 Minutes” correspondent Scott Pelley a day after he confronted the show’s new executive producer at a heated staff meeting.

“I therefore write on behalf of CBS News, Inc. to inform you that your employment with CBS is terminated for cause effective immediately,” Bilton added.
