Garden Tour - Beatrix Farrand's Legacy (9:30 - 10:30 a.m.)
Beatrix Farrand’s landscape at Green Spring Gardens Park in Alexandria is one of the few surviving gardens of this expert American landscape designer. Hear about her unconventional life and career, why she designed a garden at Green Spring and how we're protecting her legacy. Registration is $15.
Ancient Plants Sketch Hike (10 a.m. - noon)
The forests at Huntley Meadows Park in Alexandria are home to plants whose ancestors have been with us since dinosaur times. Join an artist and naturalist to discuss and sketch ferns, moss and their allies on a 1.5 mile walk. Registration is $18.
Neighborhood Plant Clinic (10 a.m. - 1 p.m.)
Drop in to City of Fairfax Regional Library for horticultural tips, information, techniques and advice from master gardeners. This program is open to all ages.
Repair Café at Great Falls Library (10:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.)
Join us for free repairs and snacks at Great Falls Library. Volunteers will help repair broken items including small appliance, toys, clothes and jewelry. We'll also offer technology and computer help.
Saturday Stories Pride Edition at Herndon Library (11 - 11:30 a.m.)
Come to Herndon Fortnightly Library for sunshine, fun and colors. We'll enjoy the sunshine with a story at 11 a.m. and chalk will be available to decorate the sidewalk. Enjoy stories, songs and rhymes at this interactive storytime.
Wildflowers Walk and Craft (1 - 2 p.m.)
Learn what makes wildflowers important in our ecosystem at Burke Lake Park. Take a walk to learn how to identify various seasonal flowers, as well as what insects rely on them. At the end of the class, make a floral craft to take home. Registration is $9.
Conversation with America (1 - 2:30 p.m.)
Join us at the Franconia Governmental Center to hear the Association of the United States Navy (AUSN) discuss the challenges the U.S. Navy is facing today, the role of the AUSN and an update on the construction of the new U.S. Navy museum in Washington, D.C.
Robotics with RISE! (3 - 5 p.m.)
Learn about building robots with students from the award-winning RISE Foundation with Capitol Robotics at Herndon Fortnightly Library. For children ages 8-12 with an adult.
Author Muneer Nasser (4 - 5:30 p.m.)
Join us at the Franconia Governmental Center for an interactive jazz master lecture with Muneer Nasser, author of "Upright Bass: The Musical Life and Legacy of Jamil Nasser." Through music, trivia, creative playing exercises, storytelling and demonstrations, attendees will be immersed in the sights, sounds and styles of blues-infused jazz.
Swallowtail Soirée (6 - 8 p.m.)
Celebrate the beauty of butterflies at Green Spring Gardens Park in Alexandria. Wander the glasshouse at golden hour, explore the art exhibit and sip a refreshing herbal mocktail made with ingredients grown onsite. Then, roll up your sleeves for a hands-on workshop inspired by the colors, scents and magic of butterflies.
