Thanks for asking about the garden layout. I think starting with tomatoes and peppers would work best given your sunlight situation. The south-facing beds get about eight hours of direct light so those are perfect for the heat-loving plants. For the shadier spots near the fence I would recommend leafy greens and herbs. Basil and mint do really well there and they help keep pests away from the other vegetables. You might also consider adding some marigolds around the border. They attract beneficial insects and add a nice pop of color. Regarding soil preparation you will want to mix in some compost about two weeks before planting. That gives the nutrients time to settle. I found that raised beds make maintenance much easier and they warm up faster in the spring. Let me know if you want me to help map out the spacing. I looked into the trail conditions for the Green Mountain loop. The ranger station confirmed the path is clear but there are a few muddy sections near the creek crossing. I would recommend bringing trekking poles for that part. The full loop is about seven miles with moderate elevation gain so plan for around four hours with breaks. Early morning start would be ideal to avoid the afternoon heat and the parking lot fills up by nine. We should pack plenty of water and some snacks. There is a nice overlook about halfway where we can stop for a break. The forecast looks clear for Saturday so that seems like the best day. I can drive if you want to meet at my place around six thirty. We will stop for coffee on the way. Let me know if that timing works for you or if you prefer a different day.
