I totally get what you mean about the new software update for the phone. It took me a while to find the new settings menu too. They moved the battery optimization feature under 'Device Care' instead of 'Battery'. It's a bit annoying when things change like that without warning. But overall, I think the new gesture controls are much smoother once you get used to them. Did you try the new multitasking gesture yet? You just swipe along the bottom bar to switch between apps. It saves so much time. Anyway, if you're still having trouble with the battery drain, turning off background refresh for a few apps usually helps a ton.
