A Toronto police officer was shot Thursday in an early morning raid on a high-rise building.

The operation was related to a national-security investigation into the March shooting of the U.S. Consulate in Toronto, a source with knowledge of the probe told the Globe and Mail. The Globe is not identifying the source because they were not authorized to speak publicly.

Around 5:45 a.m., tactical officers from the Toronto Police and RCMP entered a high-rise on Martha Eaton Way in the northwest end of the city.

Dozens of vehicles marked and unmarked were involved in the raid, including plain clothes investigators, uniformed officers and ones assigned to canine units. Many tactical officers were armed with assault rifles, handguns, tasers and goggles mounted on helmets.

One officer carried a chainsaw and another carried a battering ram.

About 15 minutes later, paramedics could be seen performing chest compressions on someone, who was brought out of the complex on a stretcher.
