I think the raised beds would work best along the southern wall where they get maximum sunlight during the day. The herb spiral could go near the kitchen door for easy access. We should put the tomatoes closest to the fence so they have something to climb as they grow. The squash and cucumbers need more room to spread so they should go in the wider beds on the east side. I checked the soil composition last week and it is reading slightly acidic which is fine for most vegetables. We could add a little lime if we decide to grow brassicas later in the season. The drip irrigation can run along the perimeter with lines to each bed to reduce water waste. I also think we should plant marigolds and nasturtiums around the edges to help with insects naturally. The compost bin should be placed near the back corner where it gets some shade so it does not dry out too fast. We can start preparing the beds this weekend if the weather holds up.
Let me know what you think about the layout and whether you want to adjust any of the placement before I mark the ground.

I talked to the community center and they can provide gloves and trash bags for the cleanup next Saturday. We will need about 15 volunteers to cover the main streets and the park area. The city has agreed to pick up the collected bags on Monday morning if we leave them at the designated corner. I think we should start at 8am to beat the heat and wrap up by noon. I can bring coffee and pastries for everyone in the morning. We should also have a few people with pickup trucks for the larger items like broken furniture or branches. I will send out a signup sheet to the neighborhood group to get a headcount. If we have extra volunteers we could also tackle the overgrown area behind the playground. The weather forecast looks good for that weekend so we should be able to get everything done without any delays.
Let me know if you can help coordinate the refreshments or if you have other ideas for organizing the teams.
