FDA and MHRA Establish Reciprocal Staff-Sharing Initiative
June 15, 2026
Dear International Colleague,
Today, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration is announcing the launch of a reciprocal staff-sharing initiative with its regulatory counterpart in the United Kingdom, the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA).
Under the initiative, an FDA representative will be embedded at the MHRA headquarters in London while an MHRA representative will be embedded at the FDA’s headquarters in White Oak, Maryland.
The initiative was announced by Grace Graham, FDA Deputy Commissioner for Policy, Legislation and International Affairs, and Lawrence Tallon, MHRA CEO, during a session at DIA Global in Philadelphia.
Historically, the FDA has enjoyed a close working relationship with the MHRA, helped by the U.K.’s advanced health data infrastructure and robust academic and tech sectors, which have yielded many opportunities for collaboration and scientific exchange. Having embedded staff in place will deepen this relationship and is expected to accelerate joint initiatives, enhance policy development, and help to identify strategic opportunities in such key areas as medical devices, artificial intelligence, rare diseases, and real-world evidence/real-world data.
