AROUND THE BAY

Support on multiple ends: After Mayor Ken Welch's reelection campaign announced the endorsement of state Sen. Darryl Rouson, the St. Pete legislator said he was also endorsing Welch's opponent, former Gov. and U.S. Rep. Charlie Crist.

Rebuttal: An attorney for the Tampa Sports Authority on Monday responded to accusations of undisclosed conflicts of interest levied against four board members.

New venue: Safety Harbor officials unanimously voted to relocate the city's July 4 celebrations amid concerns that the loud booms could harm protected birds nearby.

Grand opening: There's a new Buddy Brew Coffee in Westchase — inside a Sprouts Farmers Market.

Database discrepancy: A lawsuit alleges that a fisherman from Fort Myers was wrongfully arrested on charges that he tried to lure a girl due to improper use of Florida’s facial recognition system. The system is managed by the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office.

Life for stabbings: A Tampa jury declined to recommend the death penalty late Monday for Jean Pierre Ojeda Salazar. After 90 minutes of deliberations, the panel decided that Ojeda Salazar should be sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole for the 2023 stabbings of his girlfriend and her 14-year-old daughter.

My Favorite Florida: Did you know Dalia Colón, host and executive producer of WUSF’s “The Zest” podcast, found guavas on her trampoline?

The governor's property tax proposal has a residency requirement meant to entice Floridians at the ballot box in November — new residents will have to wait five years to benefit from it. It’s not a new idea, but it could be an unconstitutional one.

Prediction market: Kalshi, a platform that lets users wager on elections, touted Byron Donalds’ chance of winning the race for Florida governor. It's also donated to his campaign.
