Today's essential is a heartbreaking tale of an Italian mother taking on social media giants following her daughter's death by suicide. 

Just 12-years-old, Rossella Roggero Ugues behavior changed as social media fed her an increasing stream of self-harm content before she died.

When Rossella's parents unlocked her devices following her death. They found that she had been using social media far more than they had known, including maintaining a secret Instagram profile.

The story comes amid a raft of new legislation from countries around the world. Including this week's proposed social media ban in Britain.
